I am paying child support for a child that I feel that I am not the father of. The baby is now five years old. I have been supporting this child for about three and half years. When I enquired into the matter, they said that it was too late and that I would have to keep on paying child support. But I just cannot digest that I have keep on supporting the child until he turns eighteen as there is some legislation that states this, I feel that the state should not pass such stupid rules that will eventually cover the truth and not allow it to come out in the open. Even, keeping the best interests of the child at heart they should allow the child to know who the real biological father is .It is also not at all fair that the actual father has absolutely no responsibility. I just cannot digest the fact that the real biological father is totally free of all responsibility. Do you have any idea if I can contest the paternity of the child and if I can until what age can I do so? Do I really still have to keep on paying money for the child even when it is proved that I am not the biological father of the child?

Every state has different laws pertaining to paternity rights for probable fathers even if they are not the real biological father. So every state will decide their own laws and legislations. Let me remind you that DNA testing is a comparatively new phenomenon in science and many of the states are just planning to look into their laws in order to change the laws related to paternity with respect to DNA testing.
