| I had an affair with a woman and I had a baby without getting married to her. The child’s mother did not want me to sign the birth certificate but I some how made her agree to it. She was married to somebody else during that time and was going through the process and still is going through it When the baby was around four months old she told me that I was not the actual biological father of the baby and I really believed this as I was never sure that I was the father. Around six months back, I was informed by one of her friends that my girl friend had lied to me and that I myself was the real biological father and that she had lied to me. I immediately started contacting her and even her family for six months continuously through phone, email, etc to conduct a DNA test but they have still not even bothered to reply. I went to court to enquire whether I had the rights to demand a blood test and they replied that as she was still married to some body else, it is the husband who has the paternal rights of the baby in Michigan and that I have to initially get him to forgo his paternal rights. But the problem is that I have never seen the person and I do not even know who he is. I really am at cross roads now. Is there any way to determine if I am the biological father .Incase I am the father I would like to be there for him and do what ever necessary. If not, I want to go forward in life. Do tell me if there is any way out. |
Anonymous CommenterEvery state has different laws pertaining to paternal rights for alleged fathers regardless of whether they are the biological father or not. Let us remind you that DNA Paternity Testing is quite an innovative field and that the legal heads are constantly thinking of rewriting their laws and legislations relating to fatherhood. The ideal step to take in your case is to approach a lawyer who deals in such cases in your own state as he will be familiar with the laws of paternity in the state. He will be the best person to assist you in this matter. It will be ideal if you can conduct a legal paternity DNA testing order to determine your fatherhood, especially if there may be some body else to contest paternity in courts. The lawyer will be the best person to tell you to how to get the mother to agree to do the test legally.
