| I am a very worried mother who desperately wants help. When my son was born the man who is supposed to have fathered him came to see him at the hospital but did not sign the birth certificate stating that he was the father. So I changed the name and now my son who is five months old has my last name. The alleged father came to see the baby about five times and that’s it. He has since then denied that the child was his. Now he wants to claim his rights as a father to which I told him to go about trying to do the claims by himself. I also told him that I would help him with it, but he states that he has the authority to change the boy’s name. Can he really do that? I tried to make him come to some sort of an understanding that he can be with the baby when I am in the around, but he refuses to do that. You see he was using drugs and alcohol in the past and was pretty violent then. He says that he has changed for the better now, but I do not feel very happy leaving the baby alone with him. Do I have the powers as a mother of my baby to let the court be aware of this man’s past and make it understand why I do not trust the safety of my son when he is alone with him. He professes to be earning about ninety three thousand dollars a year but he never pays his taxes so I know i will not get much child support from him either. My baby is now only five months old and I am still feeding him. What ever I have done till date has been for my baby. How can I prove that his visits need to be monitored? He has threatened that if I talk about what he has done or about his past and if they put him through a drug test, he will claim for defamation. My concern is for my baby and I only want the court to know that and understand my view. This man was once given the chance to claim parenthood, but those were the days when his then girlfriend learnt that he had begotten a baby boy. Can a man like him be given paternal rights to see my baby and can he really take my baby for the weekends? He was also warned me a number of times that if I stand in his way he will take my son away to another place and I would never be able to see him again. Please do something to help me. I am really so worried that I am going out of my mind. |
