Immigration Labs
If you have been asked to provide DNA results showing you have a relative in the US then you will no doubt be wondering how to find a reliable testing laboratory. Firstly you should ask the embassy who is dealing with your case as they will have a default testing laboratory that they use. If you choose not to do this then you need to ensure you use one that offers 'chain of custody' testing that can be used in legal cases. If you take an 'in-home' DNA test then it cannot be used as evidence and will essentially waste your money. You should also ensure the company is accredited by one of the revered organizations that deal with DNA testing (e.g. the AABB, the ASCLD or HITA).
DNA test results for immigration cases can take anywhere between 3 working days and 2 weeks to come through. Do note that those living in New York need to find a DNA testing laboratory who are accredited by NYSDOH (New York State Department of Health).
